This course is designed for anyone who dreams of working with flowers and wants to turn that passion into a small business from home. Over four weeks, you'll learn essential floristry techniques and practical business knowledge. Each session combines business learning with hands-on floristry, ensuring you gain useful knowledge, new skills, and beautiful work to take home. Week 1 Welcome, Getting Started and Working with Flowers In our first session, we will begin by looking at what it really means to start a flower business from home. We will discuss the practicalities of setting up a workspace, the basic tools and equipment you may need, and some of the initial costs involved in getting started. You will also be introduced to the importance of conditioning flowers properly so they look their best and last as long as possible. From the very first class, you will get hands-on with flowers and create a simple floral design to take home, such as a small posy or buttonhole. You will learn: • What is involved in setting up a flower business from home • How to begin creating a practical workspace • Basic start-up costs and equipment • How to condition and care for flowers correctly • How to make a simple posy to take home Week 2 – Costing, Suppliers and the Hand-Tied Bouquet This week focuses on the financial side of floristry and the importance of pricing your work properly. We will look at the basics of costing, buying flowers and sundries, and understanding how to make sure your work is both beautiful and profitable. In the practical part of the session, you will learn how to create a spiral hand-tied bouquet. This is one of the most important floristry techniques and a key skill for anyone wanting to work professionally with flowers. You will learn: • The basics of costing floral work • How to think about profit and pricing • Where flowers and sundries can be sourced • How to build and wrap a spiral hand-tied bouquet Week 3 – Branding, Marketing and Vase Arrangements In week three, we turn our attention to how you present yourself and your work to potential customers. We will explore the basics of branding, marketing and social media, helping you start to think about your own style, your ideal customer and how you might promote a flower business successfully. The practical session will focus on vase arrangements and floral styling. You will learn how to create a design that is suitable for gifts, home interiors or sale, while developing your understanding
